  83. QUICK START:
  84. ------------
  85. In order to make FULL use of this entertaining program, you will need to
  86. read the documentation, which is contained in a file called JAILBIRD.TXT.
  87. But since the program is fairly self-explainatory, you can probably
  88. operate it without any detailed instructions. To start the program,
  89. simply switch to the JAILBIRD subdirectory, type JAILBIRD, and press the
  90. [ENTER] key. You'll find yourself at the input window, where you can
  91. begin typing in your personalized information.

  94. PRINTING THE DOCUMENTATION:
  95. ---------------------------
  96. The documentation file (JAILBIRD.TXT) is formatted for 70-characters per
  97. line, and 60-lines per page. To print the documentation, you can simply
  98. issue the following command from the DOS command line:

  100.      COPY JAILBIRD.TXT PRN

  104.      COPY JAILBIRD.TXT LPT1 (or whatever printer port is appropriate)

  106. The documentation file contains form-feed characters, so it can also be
  107. printed by various printing utilities.

  209. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

  211. Jailbird requires that the computer have at least a VGA monitor and card,
  212. and a mouse. It should operate under virtually any memory configuration,
  213. but 512k is recommended. DOS v2.1 or higher.
  214.  
  215. INSTALLATION:
  216. -------------
  217. The installation routine included with this package will test for the
  218. above minimum requirements. If it discovers that your system does not
  219. meet any of these requirements, it will simply stop and exit without
  220. taking any action.
  221.  
  222. If you have obtained this product on a floppy disk, simply place the disk
  223. in your floppy drive and type A:INSTALL (or B:INSTALL if approprirate)
  224. and press [ENTER].
  225.  
  226. If you have obtained this product in a ZIP archive format, you should
  227. first extract the files from the ZIP archive into a "temporary"
  228. subdirectory on your hard disk drive (i.e. C:\TEMP). Then you should
  229. switch to that temporary subdirectory, type INSTALL, and then press
  230. [ENTER].

  232. The installation utility will then install the program files and
  233. necessary documentation to a "permanent" subdirectory on your hard drive
  234. (i.e. C:\JBIRD). Once the installation is complete and you have verified
  235. that the program loads and operates, you may delete all of the
  236. installation files from the temporary subdirectory.

  240. COLOR PRINTERS

  242. Please be aware that due to the vast number of new color-compatible
  243. printers that have been brought to the marketplace recently, we cannot
  244. guarantee that this program will be compatible with all of them,
  245. especially if they use their own specific language and printer codes.
  246. JailBird utilizes a 3rd-party library for all of its printing routines,
  247. and as such we don't have total control over how it interacts with
  248. various printers, nor do we have control over what print languages and
  249. codes are supported in that library.

  252. printer to see if it works or not.
